We chatted with Scott and Tania about their Bridgetown record store Karma Llama Records, The Llama Lounge, and more.

Tell us a little bit about your store? Where are you based, how long have you been open?
Karma Llama Records / The Llama Lounge is a regional record store and live music venue in Bridgetown, WA.
Since opening, we’ve grown from a small record store into a recognised regional performance space providing a platform for touring artists, emerging musicians and community led music initiatives.

What can customers expect coming through the doors at Karma Llama Records?
When you walk into Karma Llama Records, you’re stepping into a laid-back, welcoming space where music is the heart of everything. With super friendly staff that genuinely love music and are always happy to chat. Karma Llama Records is a place to hang out, explore, and connect with music and community.

What came first for Karma Llama; the beer, wine, live music or records? What was your process in successfully intertwining it all together?
During the time that we had the record store we hosted a few in store performances. At this point we realised we wanted to lean into the live music space and began the journey of purchasing a building in Bridgetown, completely renovating over the course of 19 weeks then reopening in our current new location which now includes vinyl, live music, drinks and food.

Tell us about Llama Lounge? What kind of events do you host?
Over the past year alone, The Llama Lounge has presented more than 55 live shows, hosting an impressive lineup of local, interstate, and Indigenous artists. We have participated as a venue for Blues at Bridgetown – a three day Blues Festival held in Bridgetown each November since 1992.

Do you collect records yourself? If so, what is your most prized record?
I’d have to say my Faith No More collection is looking pretty healthy – I have most FNM LP releases and 12′ singles and a few promo records. Apart from that, any early Aussie Hard Rock / Prog vinyl that I can’t let go of!

What was the best part about RSD 2025 at your store?
The best part about RSD 2025 was seeing everyone come together to celebrate music and the hardcore vinyl collectors coming down to Bridgetown to hunt down any gems we have in-store.

What is your go-to record to spin to close out the night on a high note?
Smoke Stack Rhino’s Mojo Funk is a great LP to spin while we’re cleaning our venue down after a busy night – it’s got some epic grooves to vacuum to!

Which genre seems to fly off the shelves the fastest at your store?
We really like to support independent Australian artists and have a dedicated collection for them, especially those who’ve played live in-store. Those records tend to fly off the shelves the fastest!

Could you name a favourite event you have ever hosted?
Perth heavyweights Psyconauht & Amberdown played to a sold out room last April – that was a lot of fun but we have also had a lot of folk & country artists coming though this past year that have blown us away, hard to pick just one! We’re also proud to be a hosting venue for the iconic Blues at Bridgetown festival again this year, which is always a highlight on our calendar.

Is there a local artist you are absolutely loving at the moment?
We really love supporting all artists giving people a platform to showcase their music. We also like to support the youth with local bands like The Floorboards. We also host The Llama Jams monthly which brings together locals and from there a few bands have formed. It’s a great community day bringing together like minded people.
